How to snack smart

We’re all guilty of it. Dinner is finished, the kids have gone to bed, the fire is lighting and before you know it the chocolate biscuits are out. The majority of people I’ve worked with looking to lose weight find this particularly difficult.

You eat healthy all day, but evening time is your biggest downfall. It becomes a habit which is difficult to break.

I’ve come up with a healthy evening snack that is super tasty and nutritious. Don’t get me wrong it still contains almost 200 calories, but that’s the equivalent of 3 bourbon chocolate biscuits.

Biscuits as we know are high in sugar and low in nutrients.

Greek yogurt delight

100g of 0% Greek yogurt
Handful of raspberries
Handful of blueberries
11g of 80% cocoa dark chocolate
1 teaspoon of chia seeds

Melt the fruit and chocolate in the microwave (approx. 20-30seconds) until softened. Add to the yoghurt and mix well. Serve with chia seeds on top.

Calories: 190kcal
Carbs: 11g
Fat: 7g
Protein: 14g

The benefits of swapping your sugary snacks for my Greek yogurt delight is that it’s higher in protein, lower in added sugars and full of antioxidants (from the berries). Antioxidants have anti-inflammatory properties and are great for your health. Similarly, if you’re struggling to hit your protein targets, this is the snack for you.

Rather than cutting out your evening snack and feeling miserable, why not substitute it for something a little more nutritious.
